Axl Rose: Jury service was painless

Axl Rose found jury service 'relatively painless'.

The Guns N' Roses frontman has confirmed he took part in a short trial recently. He was requested to sit on a jury for four days and found the process much more enjoyable than he'd expected.

'It was relatively painless,' he told People. 'I was fortunate that everyone in the courthouse and jurors were all really great, plus I got to see daylight from a different prospect.'

The musician finished the process on Tuesday. He sat on the jury on a civil trial which took place in Santa Monica, California.

It's been a busy time for the rock god. He has only just finished a US tour with the famed band, the first time they have played a series of shows in the country for five years.

They have other big things coming up, as they are being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April. Other groups receiving the honour include Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beastie Boys and Donovan.

Psychedelic kooks the Flaming Lips confirm Bon Iver for their crazy collaborative release.

Rolling Stone report that The Flaming Lips are now preparing to record with Bon Iver for a huge collaborative album that they plan to release in time for Record Store Day.

They've already recorded songs with Nick Cave, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Neon Indian and previous collaborators Plastic Ono Band.

The Bon Iver song is not yet finished, but ringleader Wayne Coyne is already pitching out to other artists, including Lykke Li, Erykah Badu and, for some reason, Ke$ha.

He told RS with regards to Ke$ha: 'We knew that she was a fan. There are a lot of these sort of druggy outlets out there that people get connected through.'

Both the Nick Cave and Yoko Ono parts were recorded remotely, but he didn't confirm whether they'll actually share studio space with the other artists.

The plan is to have the album out in April.

Superstar producer Diplo (MIA, Major Lazer) prepares a music and culture coffee table book.

DJ, producer and songwriter Diplo has not only helped shape MIA, Blaqstarr and Major Lazer's sound but has worked with Bruno Mars, Shakira, Snoop Dogg, Chris Brown, La Roux, Santigold, Kid Cudi and scores more, and brought the hook to Beyonce's 'Run The World (Girls)'.

Now Pitchfork reports that the globetrotting culture vulture will release a photo book in April, titled 128 Beats Per Minute: Diplo's Visual Guide to Music, Culture, and Everything in Between.

The book features photos from around the world by former Annie Liebowitz assistant Shane McCauley and a foreword from US fashion designer Alexander Wang.

According to publisher Rizzoli, it 'follows Diplo on this fantastic journey, from his involvement with dub reggae in Jamaica to the electro/techno underground in Tel Aviv. Each chapter chronicles his tastes and travels, complete with tweets and playlists.'

128 Beats Per Minute: Diplo's Visual Guide to Music, Culture, and Everything in Between will be published on April 3.

Nada Surf behind the scenes video released

Nada-Surf-behind-the-scenes-video-released Email this story Printable version

Ahead of the release of NADA SURF's first album of new material in four years, they have uploaded a new behind the scenes video which sees them playing acoustic, cooking and chatting about life as a member of the band.

'The Stars Are Indifferent To Astronomy', released on 23 January 2012, is NADA SURF's sixth studio album, and third for City Slang, following the successful and critically lauded 'The Weight is a Gift' (2005), 'Lucky' (2007) and their self-released covers record 'If I Had a Hifi' (2010) that was intended to be only available at shows but forced into normal retail by popular demand.

It is also accompanied by live shows in London and Glasgow early next month. See below for details.

NADA SURF's line-up for 15 years has been and still is Matthew Caws (vocals, guitar), Daniel Lorca (bass) and Ira Elliot (drums), though this time, they invited guitarist Doug Gillard (Guided by Voices) to join in the recording process as well as a certain increasingly prolific Martin Wenk of Calexico fame. Chris Shaw (Wilco, Brendan Benson and Super Furry Animals) was brought in to produce and record, having worked with the band before when he mixed their 2005 smash, 'Always Love.'

'We've always played faster and a little harder live," Caws says, "but we'd play so carefully in the studio. So with this album, we made a conscious decision to preserve what it felt like in the practice room, when you play with that new-song energy. Just embrace it and not worry whether we're overdoing it, kind of get all the thinking out of the way."

Nada Surf will be in London and available for interview this coming Monday January 16th.

They also play the following live shows:

07. Feb UK Glasgow - King Tuts
08. Feb UK London - Koko
